Usage

Basic Workflow

  1. Enter or paste text in the main area
  2. Select language and voice from the sidebar
  3. Adjust speed if needed
  4. Click Create to generate and play
  5. Click Save to export as MP3/WAV

Text Input

The large text area on the left accepts any text. Word count displays in the status bar.

For best results: - Break very long text into sections - Use punctuation naturally - it affects rhythm - Avoid excessive special characters

Preprocessing

When enabled, SimpleReader expands common abbreviations:

etc. et cetera
vs. versus
ASAP as soon as possible

Toggle with Smart preprocessing in the sidebar.

Voice Selection

  1. Choose Language first
  2. Available Voices update automatically
  3. Voices marked with ★ are recommended defaults

Speed Control

Drag the slider to adjust playback speed:

Speed Use Case
0.5x Careful listening, language learning
1.0x Normal speech
1.2x Efficient listening
1.5x Speed reading
2.0x Quick review

Streaming Playback

Audio streams as it generates - you'll hear output before the full text is processed. This is especially useful for long content.

The status bar shows: - "Generating..." while processing - "Playing chunk N..." during streaming - "Done" when complete

Export

Click Save after generating audio to export as MP3 (~192kbps).

Tips

  • Long text: Let it stream - don't wait for full generation
  • Pauses: Add punctuation (commas, periods) for natural rhythm
  • Names: Unusual names may need phonetic spelling
  • Numbers: Write out numbers for better pronunciation ("twenty-five" vs "25")
